FEATURED TOPIC:
Ohio's Business Climate Ranks 4th Nationally and Best in the Midwest

Ohio Business GrowthOhio’s high rank reflects the state’s efforts to improve its business environment.

Site Selection magazine’s annual state business climate rankings are computed from new plant construction data and a survey of site selectors. In 2009, Ohio ranked 4th nationally, up three spots from where the state placed in 2008.

In the executive survey portion of the ranking, Ohio improved from 17th in 2008 to eighth in 2009, which serves as further proof that corporate decision makers and influencers are taking note of the significant changes occurring in Ohio to attract capital investment.

According to the Site Selection surveys, Ohio’s transportation infrastructure and access, existing workforce skills, and state and local tax environment, including the full elimination of the corporate franchise and tangible personal property taxes, were the heaviest influences on executive polling.

FEATURED SECTOR:
Ohio Bolsters Aerospace Leadership with Recent Investments

Ohio Aerospace IndustryGE Aviation’s recent announcement of a $200 million revitalization of its Evendale, Ohio headquarters and Alcoa’s plans to invest more than $110 million at its Cleveland Works location further strengthens Ohio’s global leadership position in the aerospace industry.

GE Aviation’s $200 million revitalization project is a strategic public-private partnership that includes a $100 million investment by GE Aviation for capital improvements, a 15-year Job Retention Tax Credit from the Ohio Department of Development valued at more than $100 million and a $1 million grant from the village of Evendale to launch the revitalization. The project includes modernizing engine test and production facilities, razing inefficient buildings and acquiring new equipment for long-term stability and growth.

Ohio’s collaboration with Alcoa will maintain jobs in Cleveland and make the Cleveland Works facility a premier producer of aerospace and industrial components. As part of the project, Alcoa will be refurbishing a 50,000-ton forging press vital to the production of the F35 Joint Strike Fighter.
