At a time of historic economic challenges and a deep U.S. recession, Americans remain distinctly optimistic, according to The American Reality Study research commissioned by Northwestern Mutual. The research revealed a number of surprising results about the attitudes and priorities of Americans, age 25 and up.
Today, success is measured in family units. Quality of life is more important than career, money and material possession. And middle adulthood is considered the "Golden Years" of life. What we're seeing very clearly from this research is that the 'personal balance sheet' is considered the primary yardstick for success," said Greg Oberland, Northwestern Mutual executive vice president of insurance and technology.

China is an important trading partner and Chinese corporations are starting to invest in the state of Ohio. The Shanghai based Ohio China Center was established in 2006 to expand business investment opportunities and trade between Ohio and China. In 2008, Ohio opened a second office in Beijing, China to complement the efforts to bolster trade relations with China. Currently there are more than 1,000 employees working for Chinese corporations in Ohio.
In addition, Ohio exported $1.8 billion worth of products to China in 2008, a 21% increase over 2007, making it Ohio's fourth largest export destination after Canada, Mexico and Japan.
