JCC to Host 'Swim or Walk for Diabetes' in March

Swim for Diabetes

Did you know that one in ten people will develop diabetes during their lifetime? Did you also know that currently there are nearly 185,000 Central Ohioans living with diabetes?

Diabetes is a condition in which the body fails to produce insulin or respond to insulin. Without insulin, the body cannot use food for energy. Over a period of time, high blood sugar can result in complications such as blindness, heart or kidney disease, and limb amputations.

The JCC, in conjunction with the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, is hosting the 33rd annual Swim or Walk for Diabetes on Sunday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those wishing to participate are required to ask family, friends and acquaintances for pledges for completed laps or a fixed amount, and then collect the pledges after the event.

One hundred percent of the pledges raised by the event will remain in the Central Ohio community to fund diabetes education programs, nutrition counseling and community detection. This year's community goal is to raise more than $200,000 for the Central Ohio Diabetes Association.

Registration forms are available at the JCC, or by clicking here to visit the Swim for Diabetes website.
