InBound Logistics Ranks Columbus as a Logistics Hotspot

Training Pilot Program Graduates 24Building a high-skill workforce for competitive advantage is a core mission of the Columbus Region Logistics Council. As part of this mission, the Logistics Attracting and Retaining Talent Program (ART) is successfully moving forward by graduating its first 24 students this summer. The Logistics-ART project is geared to developing an entry to mid-level workforce for logistics businesses residing in the Columbus MSA (defined as: Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Licking, Madison, Morrow, Pickaway, and Union Counties in central Ohio). The program, developed through a partnership of Columbus State Community College and the Central Ohio Workforce Investment Corporation, is funded by a $4.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. CRLC members ODW Logistics and Midwest Express provided onsite training as part of the pilot program. Participants also spent a week in the classroom learning about logistics, customer service and resume writing. Upon graduation, they are qualified for entry level to skilled positions such as forklift operators. Columbus' Fox 28 featured a report about the pilot program recently. The official description of the grant awards can be found at the Department of Labor Web site. |

Summer Internship ProgramThe Columbus Region Logistics Council is pleased to again be partnering with Cofer Consulting Solutions, LLC to deliver the 2010 Columbus Region Logistics Council Summer Internship Program. Ward Moving & Storage, McGraw Hill, ODW Logistics, Pacer, Plante & Moran, Schneider Downs, and Zipline Logistics. The students represent six universities and majors such as accounting, communication, finance, human resources, and of course logistics management. The comprehensive program offers opportunities for the interns ranging from professional development forums and site tours to a night at Huntington Park and other networking events. For example, on July 14 many of the interns converged on Blendon Woods Metro Park's Hickory Grove Shelter House for an experiential learning event. You can view those photos on Facebook.
